Internet Movie Clip Playback Problems

Movie does not play

a) BE PATIENT. Movies may not begin to play until fully loaded (depending on how your browser is configured). Depending upon the size and the speed of your connection, this can take a very long time. The clip's size is listed above its thumbnail. A 15 MB clip could take 50 minutes to load if you are using a dialup connection!

b) Your browser may not be configured to play the type of movie clip the traveler has posted (either MPG, AVI, MP4, MOV or WMV). You will have to install the correct plug-in. Note that the movie clip type is listed above the thumbnail. We recommend installing the QuickTime plug-in, which is available as a free download:

      Windows: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
      Macintosh: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/mac.html

Note that older versions of Quicktime cannot play MP4 video. You may have to install the free update to playback MP4 video clips.

To playback WMV clips on a Macintosh, you must have a WMV player installed. "WindowsMediaPlayer" from Microsoft will work, but Microsoft has announced that it will no longer upgrade "WindowsMediaPlayer" for Macintosh. However, you can download it for free at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/ (under their 'other products' link). Instead, we recommend a product called "Flip4Mac WMV" which adds WMV support to QuickTime. This is a available at http://flip4mac.com (free trial, small charge for permanent license).

Movie plays for a while then stops

Most likely the movie has not fully loaded. Wait until it is loaded and replay the movie. This can also happen on older systems that don't meet the requirements, or don't have enough memory (RAM) or processor power.

Movie drops frames or the sound breaks up

Your system may be underpowered - it may have insufficient RAM or its processor speed is too slow.

If you've tried all the above suggestions, including installing and/or updating QuickTime (and on Macintosh, installing and/or updating your WMV player, see above) and you still can't play a posted clip, try viewing it at a different computer on a better internet connection. If it plays fine somewhere else, it is likely that the issue is with your computer and/or browser settings and you should seek expert advice. Please note that MyTripJournal.com cannot offer phone or email support for problems with your browser configuration.
